What a private East Africa safari costs in 2027.
The short answer: across the four safari countries in 2027, the middle half of Distinguished camp and lodge rates in Sail's collection spans US$290 to 1,380 per person per night sharing depending on country and season, and the middle half of the Most Exclusive Addresses US$895 to 4,255, before park fees, permits, flights and guiding. Complete private journeys on the Distinguished expression start from US$440 per person for a four-night Zanzibar stay and from US$5,470 per person for a safari of a week or more.
Lodge rates by country and expression
Where a night tends to fall.
Computed from the 252 published rack rates of the safari lodges in the collection (Zanzibar and Seychelles lodge rates are on request; the island Signature Journeys carry their own from prices), per person per night sharing. "Most properties" is the middle half of each group; "full range" runs from the lowest low-season rate to the highest high-season rate. Small groups, such as Rwanda's nine Distinguished properties, give wider bands. Reviewed 8 September 2026.

What sits on top of the lodge rate
Fees set by the authorities, not by Sail.
| Fee | Amount | Set by |

| Gorilla permit, Uganda | US$800 per person; US$600 for treks in April, May and November | Uganda Wildlife Authority, 2026/27 tariff |
| Gorilla permit, Rwanda | US$1,500 per person | Rwanda Development Board, checked August 2026 |
| Chimpanzee permit, Kibale | US$300 per person from 1 January 2027 | Uganda Wildlife Authority, 2026/27 tariff |
| Serengeti entry | US$82.60 per person per day, plus a US$70.80 concession fee for each night spent inside the park; figures include VAT | TANAPA, checked August 2026 |
| Ngorongoro Conservation Area | US$70.80 per person per day, plus US$295 per vehicle for a crater descent; figures include VAT | NCAA, checked August 2026 |
| Maasai Mara National Reserve | US$200 per person per day | Narok County, checked August 2026 |
| Mara conservancies | US$100 to 140 per person per night | Set by each conservancy, checked August 2026 |
Every fee is charged at the rate the authority publishes, confirmed at booking. Scheduled flights are included on the Sail 2027 flight tariff; the private vehicle and Sail guide on road chapters, transfers and airport meetings are itemised in each proposal. The journal keeps the detail: gorilla permits, chimpanzee permits, park and conservancy fees, what a rate includes, and the cost drivers in Kenya and Tanzania.

What the from prices add up to.
Forty of the fifty Signature Journeys carry a 2027 from price on the Distinguished expression: low season, two adults, per person sharing, with lodges, park and conservation fees, named permits, private ground transport and guide, and scheduled flights on the Sail 2027 flight tariff included, confirmed at quotation. The lowest and highest single-country from prices are shown here; the combination journeys and the island stays carry their own on the journey pages.
The Most Exclusive Addresses expression, high-season dates, single travellers and families are priced on request.
Questions travellers ask
Reading the numbers.
Are these bands quotations?
No. They are the published rack rates of the camps and lodges in Sail's collection, grouped by country and expression, so you can see where a night tends to fall before any route exists. A quotation is written only once dates, rooms, permits and flights are held.
What is missing from a per-night lodge rate?
Park and conservancy fees, gorilla and chimpanzee permits, scheduled flights, the private vehicle and Sail guide on road chapters, transfers and any activity the lodge does not include. The from prices on the Signature Journeys bring all of these together.
Which months count as low season?
For these bands, low season runs from 15 March to 31 May and from 1 November to 15 December, and the rest of the year is taken at the high-season rate; individual properties may price festive and peak weeks above it. The Uganda Wildlife Authority's reduced gorilla permit follows its own calendar, April, May and November. In the low season the forests are wetter and the plains greener.
What is not in a from price?
International flights, visas, travel insurance, gratuities, premium drinks unless stated, and optional activities not itemised. Each journey page lists what its from price usually includes and excludes.
Do travel advisors see the same figures?
Yes. These bands and the from prices are public rates; travel advisors receive nett rates at quotation, with inclusions and payment terms separated on the proposal.
From a band to a figure
Tell us the dates and the people, and the range becomes a price.
A quotation follows once permits, rooms and flights are held for your dates. No figure is written as final before that.
