Our Story
The Unhurried Safari.
East Africa is our home. Hosting is our craft. Sail is built on local depth, personal responsibility and the discipline of placing every guest in the right moment—without rushing it.
How this began
Built slowly.
On purpose.
Sail began in 2016, as an idea that would not leave. Nulu Kamuntu was then a Safari Curator with Abercrombie & Kent, pioneers of the modern safari, and one question kept returning: why was the African story— “raw, untamed, authentic”—so rarely told by the people who own it?
Sail was founded that year to be the answer: a safari house crafted and run by East Africans, for the journeys only East Africans can give.
He did not leave the next morning. For several years he stayed, deliberately—learning the standard at the standard's source, refining the craft, the timing and the discipline of detail that sustain a great journey until the young house could stand on all of it. Sail was built the way its journeys are built: slowly, and on purpose.
What has never changed is the ground itself. We are East Africans. The forests of Bwindi, the thousand hills of Rwanda, the plains of the Mara and the Serengeti, and the crater at Ngorongoro are not destinations we studied; they are places we come from. Decades on this ground taught us the thing no handbook can: exactly when a moment is about to arrive, and how to have you standing in the right place when it does.

Our guests are not lacking things. They are lacking attention, connection and time—the three things no lodge can put in a room, and the three things a journey, properly held, can restore.
True luxury is not found in excess, but in the perfectly timed moment.

We cannot script the wild; rain falls, and gorillas keep their own schedule. What we can do is make sure that when the moment comes, you are perfectly placed, unhurried, and paying attention.

Every Sail guide and sample journey is designed or reviewed by our East Africa specialists—not assembled as a generic itinerary.
We write from first-hand regional knowledge and the operational detail required to make a route work: geography, driving time, airstrip access, permit sector, seasonal wildlife movement and the character of the stay.
Park rules, permit availability, camp openings and flight schedules can change. We reconfirm them at proposal and booking stage, explain uncertainty clearly and never promise a natural wildlife event on a particular day.
