Hoof, Lake and Gorilla: a 9-day active Uganda safari

A lighter southern arc: walking and horseback safari at Lake Mburo before four nights around the gorilla forest. Active by design, and short enough to sit inside a fortnight.

Plan with a clearer frame

Season, party size and the shape of the investment.

Best fit. Families with older children and active honeymooners who want to move as well as watch.

Choose another route when. Choose The Forest, Unhurried if chimpanzees matter more than horseback and walking, or The Nile to the Mountains for a longer family route.

Peak seasonJuly to October and festive dates

Drier trails are often favoured, while permits, domestic flights and the best-positioned rooms need earlier decisions.

The shape of the journey

Why this route works.

Active and unhurried, with one road south and one flight home

  1. Lake Mburo changes the safari posture, on foot, on horseback and by boat, before the forest asks for a different kind of effort.
  2. Four nights in Bwindi hold the trek, a second forest morning for those who want it, and a day with nothing planned.
  3. The route runs one way south and flies home from Kihihi, so no road is driven twice.

Signature Sail moments

  • Private arrival assistance and a restorative first evening
  • A walking safari at Lake Mburo
  • Gorilla trek with a porter and a ranger briefing

Day by day

The considered route.

01

Day 1 · Entebbe

A soft landing beside Lake Victoria

Your Sail host meets you at Entebbe and the first evening is kept deliberately light: a garden, the lake, an early night. Nothing about the journey begins on the road before the body has arrived.

02

Days 2 to 3 · Lake Mburo

A change of posture

Lake Mburo changes how the safari is done: on foot with a ranger, on horseback among zebra and eland, by boat on the lake. A smaller, more intimate system that suits families and active travellers before the forest.

03

Days 4 to 7 · Bwindi

Four nights in gorilla country

Four nights allow the forest to settle around you: the gorilla trek, a second morning for those who want it, a Batwa community visit and a protected half-day that stays unbooked so weather, wildlife and energy can change the plan without breaking the journey.

04

Day 8 · Entebbe

Back to the lake with margin

Return to Entebbe with time in hand rather than a tight connection. A last quiet evening beside the lake closes the Uganda chapter, and the international departure is checked against the live schedule before anything is confirmed.

05

Day 9 · Departure

Return with care

A private transfer to the airport with time in hand. International departure timing is checked against the live schedule before anything is confirmed.

Two expressions, one journey

The same route, in two registers of address.

The Most Exclusive Addresses and the Distinguished Camps and Lodges preserve the same route, purpose and Sail operating standard. The expression changes the addresses, never the soul of the journey. Every property is a current decision set, not guaranteed inventory; availability, opening and access are confirmed live.

A Sail planning perspective

A starting point, never a fixed package.

Riding is arranged through the lodge and depends on age and experience. The gorilla trek's difficulty is set on the morning by the group allocated, so the days either side are kept flexible.

Every final journey is built around confirmed availability, the current season, your preferred pace and the character of places you want to stay. No fixed departure or price is implied by this sample.
