The shape of the journey

Why this route works.

Unhurried, with two contrasting chapters and one city night

  1. Akagera gives a family or a first safari the open-country wildlife before the forest asks for effort.
  2. Three nights in the volcanoes hold the trek with recovery either side; golden monkeys suit younger travellers who cannot trek.
  3. Kigali opens the journey and closes it on the departure morning, so no night is spent in transit.

Signature Sail moments

  • The Kigali Genocide Memorial, paced with respect
  • Game drives on Akagera's northern plains
  • Gorilla trek with a porter and a ranger briefing

Day by day

The considered route.

01

Day 1 · Kigali

Context before landscape

Kigali is met first as a city, not a transit point. Where timing allows, a visit to the Genocide Memorial is paced with care and followed by quiet. The handover to the road north is precise, and the first evening stays unhurried.

02

Days 2 to 3 · Akagera

Savannah restored

Akagera is Rwanda's restoration story: lakes, papyrus and open plains where lion, rhino and elephant have returned. Game drives on the northern plains and a boat on Lake Ihema make a distinct wildlife chapter before the mountains.

03

Days 4 to 6 · Volcanoes

The hour in the bamboo

Three nights beneath the Virunga volcanoes are built around one hour with a gorilla family, with a porter, a ranger briefing and the morning allocation handled carefully. The other days hold golden monkeys, a village walk or nothing at all, so the encounter has room to settle.

04

Day 7 · Departure

Return with care

A private transfer to the airport closes the journey, timed with margin rather than haste.

Two expressions, one journey

The same route, in two registers of address.

The Most Exclusive Addresses and the Distinguished Camps and Lodges preserve the same route, purpose and Sail operating standard. The expression changes the addresses, never the soul of the journey. Every property is a current decision set, not guaranteed inventory; availability, opening and access are confirmed live.

Journey figures are given on request once every air sector and supplier rate has been verified for your dates. Sail does not publish a figure it cannot stand behind.

A Sail planning perspective

A starting point, never a fixed package.

Gorilla trekking has a minimum age of fifteen; younger family members can track golden monkeys or take a village walk while adults trek. Sail confirms every permit name before booking.

Every final journey is built around confirmed availability, the current season, your preferred pace and the character of places you want to stay. No fixed departure or price is implied by this sample.
