Plan with a clearer frame

Season, party size and the shape of the investment.

Best fit. Returning Africa travellers and active travellers who want to be on foot in the bush more than in a vehicle.

Choose another route when. Choose The Quiet South if river safari and the coast appeal more than walking, or The Classic, Unhurried for a vehicle-based first safari.

Lush landscapes, dramatic skies and greater flexibility, with rain and track conditions designed into the day.

Shoulder seasonJanuary to February and selected June dates

Wildlife depth and camp choice outside the principal crossing months, with calving on the southern plains.

The shape of the journey

Why this route works.

Unhurried and active, with mornings on foot and afternoons in the vehicle

  1. Walking turns a landscape into a place: tracks, smells, birds and the small things a vehicle drives past.
  2. Ruaha's four nights give the south's largest park the time to reveal its predators and its escarpments.
  3. A direct flight from Tarangire to Ruaha joins the two walking chapters without a road day.

Signature Sail moments

  • Private airport welcome and a villa arrival
  • A dawn game drive through elephant country
  • Full-day game drives in Ruaha

Day by day

The considered route.

01

Day 1 · Arusha

Arrive gently beneath Mount Meru

Land at Kilimanjaro and settle into a quiet Arusha house among coffee and forest. We protect this first evening rather than placing an international arrival straight onto safari roads; the route is briefed over dinner.

02

Days 2 to 4 · Tarangire

Three nights among the herds

Three nights let Tarangire show its range: the river at dawn, the swamps and the quieter south, and a walking morning that changes the scale of the place entirely.

03

Days 5 to 8 · Ruaha

Baobab country and the quiet scale of the south

Ruaha is deeper and quieter: baobab escarpments, the Great Ruaha river in the dry season and strong predator dynamics. Four nights allow full-day drives and, where the camp offers it, walking that changes the scale of the place.

04

Day 9 · Arusha

Fly out of the wild

A scheduled bush flight returns you to Arusha for the onward connection, with a final night held if the international timing needs it. The Tanzania chapter ends with margin, not a race to the airport.

05

Day 10 · Departure

Return with care

A private transfer to the airport with time in hand. International departure timing is checked against the live schedule before anything is confirmed.

Two expressions, one journey

The same route, in two registers of address.

The Most Exclusive Addresses and the Distinguished Camps and Lodges preserve the same route, purpose and Sail operating standard. The expression changes the addresses, never the soul of the journey. Every property is a current decision set, not guaranteed inventory; availability, opening and access are confirmed live.

A Sail planning perspective

A starting point, never a fixed package.

Walking safaris are led by armed guides under park rules, with minimum ages and fitness expectations that Sail discusses before the route is fixed. June to October gives the driest ground and the best visibility.

Every final journey is built around confirmed availability, the current season, your preferred pace and the character of places you want to stay. No fixed departure or price is implied by this sample.
