The shape of the journey

Why this route works.

Measured, with three principal landscapes

  1. The route builds from quieter elephant country to the concentrated wildlife of the crater, then gives the Serengeti the longest stay.
  2. Camp geography follows likely wildlife movement rather than forcing every month into the same part of the Serengeti.
  3. A private vehicle through Tarangire and Ngorongoro protects flexibility; a bush flight at the end preserves time and avoids retracing the circuit.

Day by day

The considered route.

01

Day 1 · Arusha

Arrive gently

Meet your Sail host and settle into a quiet Arusha base. We protect this first evening rather than placing an international arrival straight onto safari roads.

02

Days 2–3 · Tarangire

Elephant country and baobab light

Travel privately into Tarangire for unhurried drives along the river, through baobab woodland and across the park's quieter reaches. The lodge position is chosen for the season and preferred style of day.

03

Days 4–5 · Ngorongoro

The highlands and crater floor

Move into the volcanic highlands, with time for the landscape before an early descent into Ngorongoro Crater. Timing and a private vehicle allow the day to be shaped around conditions rather than a standard circuit.

04

Days 6–8 · Serengeti

Read the moving ecosystem

Continue or fly to the Serengeti region that best fits the month. Three nights create room for patient sightings, changing weather and wildlife movement without promising a particular river crossing.

05

Day 9 · Arusha or Kilimanjaro

Fly out of the wild

Take a scheduled bush flight back to Arusha for your onward connection, or extend to another Tanzanian region or the Indian Ocean.

A Sail planning perspective

A starting point, never a fixed package.

Migration timing is natural and cannot be guaranteed. Sail confirms current camp positions, air schedules and access before proposing the final version of this route.

Every final journey is built around confirmed availability, the current season, your preferred pace and the character of places you want to stay. No fixed departure or price is implied by this sample.
