Plan with a clearer frame

Season, party size and the shape of the investment.

Best fit. Families and first-time safari travellers who prefer a single vehicle and a single guide for the whole journey.

Choose another route when. Choose Elephant Corridors for an adult, elephant-led version of the same country, or The Family Plains for the Tanzanian family circuit.

Green seasonApril to May and selected November dates

Open landscapes, strong birding and greater camp flexibility, with local rain shaping daily access.

Shoulder seasonJanuary to March, June and early December

Resident wildlife, activity choice and lower pressure than the principal migration months.

The shape of the journey

Why this route works.

Unhurried and road-based, with two-night chapters and one long Tsavo stay

  1. The road shows the Rift Valley, the escarpment and the changing country in a way flights cannot.
  2. Nakuru's rhino and flamingo and Amboseli's elephants give children two easy, close encounters before the scale of Tsavo.
  3. Three nights in Tsavo mean the longest chapter comes when the family has found its rhythm.

Signature Sail moments

  • Private arrival and an unhurried Karen district evening
  • A rhino and birding drive at Lake Nakuru
  • A dawn elephant drive beneath Kilimanjaro
  • Mzima Springs or the Tsavo lava country with a guide

Day by day

The considered route.

01

Day 1 · Nairobi

A composed Nairobi opening

Arrive to a private transfer and a base in the Karen district, where the city becomes gardens and forest edge. Depending on the hour, the first day can hold the giraffe sanctuary or the elephant orphanage, or simply rest before the flight north.

02

Days 2 to 3 · Lake Nakuru

The Rift Valley pause

Escarpment, lake and birdlife make the visual pause between larger game systems: rhino and flamingo at Nakuru, a boat or a walk at Naivasha, and a road that shows the Rift Valley properly.

03

Days 4 to 5 · Amboseli

Elephant society beneath Kilimanjaro

Read elephant society rather than treat the mountain as a photograph: the big tuskers at dawn, the swamps at midday, Kilimanjaro clear when the cloud lifts. Two nights are placed for the light.

04

Days 6 to 8 · Tsavo

Lava, springs and red earth

Tsavo is Kenya's largest connected wilderness: the Mzima Springs, the Shetani lava flows and the red-earth elephants of the east. Three nights give the scale room to register.

05

Day 9 · Nairobi

Nairobi with time to spare

A scheduled flight returns to Wilson airport, followed by a private transfer with realistic timing. A final night in Karen gives the journey a proper close rather than an airport dash.

06

Day 10 · Departure

Return with care

A private transfer to the airport with time in hand. International departure timing is checked against the live schedule before anything is confirmed.

Two expressions, one journey

The same route, in two registers of address.

The Most Exclusive Addresses and the Distinguished Camps and Lodges preserve the same route, purpose and Sail operating standard. The expression changes the addresses, never the soul of the journey. Every property is a current decision set, not guaranteed inventory; availability, opening and access are confirmed live.

A Sail planning perspective

A starting point, never a fixed package.

Road days are kept to half-days with a private vehicle and guide throughout, and lodges are chosen for family rooms, pools and how close the wildlife comes. June to October and January to February give the clearest mountain mornings.

Every final journey is built around confirmed availability, the current season, your preferred pace and the character of places you want to stay. No fixed departure or price is implied by this sample.
