The two fixed lines

These two numbers govern every primate family file, and they are the two we state plainly because the authorities publish them.
Everything else on this page is deliberately described rather than numbered. Rules change, and an article that lists a figure for every park becomes a liability the day one authority moves. The working method is a current check per activity, made at proposal and repeated at booking.

Primates beyond the two fixed lines
Golden monkey tracking at Volcanoes and Mgahinga carries lower minimums than the gorilla rule, which is exactly why it shapes the under-15 plan B; the current figure is confirmed with the park for your date. Chimpanzee habituation, night walks and forest research experiences each carry their own conditions.
The principle that governs them all: the permit is issued under the rule in force on the activity date, and no operator can promise otherwise. If a child's birthday falls between booking and travel, the age that counts is the age on the day.

Savannah, water and air
Game drives have no park-wide minimum in most East African parks; in practice, lodges and camps set the meaningful limits, from child-friendly properties with family vehicles to adult-oriented camps that do not take young children at all. Walking safaris are more restrictive, with parks and properties commonly setting teenage minimums and guides holding final discretion.
Boat activities, from the Kazinga Channel to Nile launches, follow vessel and operator rules. Balloon flights are governed by the operator's own age and height requirements, applied without exception at the basket. Each is checked as its own line on the itinerary.

How Sail runs the age check

Useful answers, before you decide.
Can an exception be requested for a nearly-15 gorilla trekker?
No. Both authorities apply the rule by age on the trekking date, and asking rangers to bend it is not a plan. The under-15 plan B exists precisely for this.
Do lodges have minimum ages too?
Many do, and they differ property by property. Family suitability is checked before any stay is proposed, so the lodge list already fits the party.
