The rule, without a workaround
Both UWA and RDB set gorilla trekking at 15 and over, judged by age on the trekking date. A well-grown 14-year-old is still 14, and asking a ranger to see what can be done is not a plan. Families are told this at the first proposal, because the answer shapes the whole journey.
The productive question is not how to bend the rule but what the under-15s' morning should be. Golden monkeys are the strongest answer in gorilla country itself.

What a golden monkey morning is like
Golden monkeys — endemic to the Virunga volcanoes — live in large, fast, sociable troops in the bamboo belt of Volcanoes National Park and Mgahinga. Tracking them is typically gentler and shorter than a gorilla trek, the troops move constantly, and the encounter is kinetic in a way children genuinely enjoy rather than merely tolerate.
Age minimums for golden monkey tracking are set by the park authorities, sit lower than the gorilla rule, and are reconfirmed for the actual date at booking rather than recycled from an old brochure. As with all wildlife, the encounter is managed by rangers and never guaranteed.

Designing the split morning
