Plan with a clearer frame

Season, party size and the shape of the investment.

Best fit. Returning Africa travellers and conservation specialists who have done the Mara and want the quieter Kenya.

Choose another route when. Choose The Mountain and the Wells to add Amboseli and the Mara, or Born Free Country for Meru's rivers in place of Samburu.

Green seasonApril to May and selected November dates

Open landscapes, strong birding and greater camp flexibility, with local rain shaping daily access.

Shoulder seasonJanuary to March, June and early December

Resident wildlife, activity choice and lower pressure than the principal migration months.

The shape of the journey

Why this route works.

Unhurried, with two deep stays and no Mara

  1. Laikipia's private conservancies place rhino conservation and walking at the centre of the journey rather than at its edge.
  2. Samburu adds the dry-country species and a community stewardship story that the southern parks cannot tell.
  3. Flights between the three regions keep every transfer under an hour.

Signature Sail moments

  • Private arrival and an unhurried Karen district evening
  • A rhino conservation encounter
  • River game drives and the northern species of Samburu

Day by day

The considered route.

01

Day 1 · Nairobi

A composed Nairobi opening

Arrive to a private transfer and a base in the Karen district, where the city becomes gardens and forest edge. Depending on the hour, the first day can hold the giraffe sanctuary or the elephant orphanage, or simply rest before the flight north.

02

Days 2 to 4 · Laikipia

Rhino country and private land

Laikipia places rhino conservation, private land and active safari at the centre of the journey: walking, hides, riding where offered, and time with the conservation teams. Three nights let the plateau's full character emerge.

03

Days 5 to 7 · Samburu

North into dry country

Move north into the special five, the Ewaso Nyiro river and the silence of the north. Community stewardship is part of the landscape here; at the singing wells, the elephants and the herders share the water.

04

Day 8 · Nairobi

Nairobi with time to spare

A scheduled flight returns to Wilson airport, followed by a private transfer with realistic timing. A final night in Karen gives the journey a proper close rather than an airport dash.

05

Day 9 · Departure

Return with care

A private transfer to the airport with time in hand. International departure timing is checked against the live schedule before anything is confirmed.

Two expressions, one journey

The same route, in two registers of address.

The Most Exclusive Addresses and the Distinguished Camps and Lodges preserve the same route, purpose and Sail operating standard. The expression changes the addresses, never the soul of the journey. Every property is a current decision set, not guaranteed inventory; availability, opening and access are confirmed live.

Journey figures are given on request once every air sector and supplier rate has been verified for your dates. Sail does not publish a figure it cannot stand behind.

A Sail planning perspective

A starting point, never a fixed package.

The north is best from June to March; April and May rains close some airstrips and roads. Sail confirms conservancy activity rules, aircraft baggage limits and current camp openings before proposing the sequence.

Every final journey is built around confirmed availability, the current season, your preferred pace and the character of places you want to stay. No fixed departure or price is implied by this sample.
