Season, party size and the shape of the investment.

Best fit. Families, multigenerational groups and honeymooners who want safari and islands in one fortnight.

Choose another route when. Choose Safari to Spice for the Tanzania and Zanzibar version, or After the Gorillas to pair the islands with Bwindi.

Green seasonApril to May and selected November dates

Open landscapes, strong birding and greater camp flexibility, with local rain shaping daily access.

The private vehicle, guide and fixed route costs are shared by two, so the per-person investment is usually highest.Four travellers usually create the clearest private-journey efficiency while preserving one vehicle and a close group dynamic.Six travellers can share more fixed costs, subject to luggage, room mix and whether one or two vehicles best protect comfort.
Shoulder seasonJanuary to March, June and early December

Resident wildlife, activity choice and lower pressure than the principal migration months.

The shape of the journey

Why this route works.

Unhurried, with three-night safari chapters and a five-night island close

  1. Two Nairobi nights allow the giraffe sanctuary and the elephant orphanage before the first flight, which families value.
  2. Laikipia's rhino conservation and a private Mara camp give the safari two distinct characters.
  3. A direct flight from Nairobi to Mahé makes the islands a release rather than a second journey.

Signature Sail moments

  • Private arrival and an unhurried Karen district evening
  • A rhino conservation encounter
  • Conservancy game drives with few vehicles
  • Beach days on the lee coast, chosen by trade wind

Day by day

The considered route.

01

Days 1 to 2 · Nairobi

A composed Nairobi opening

Arrive to a private transfer and a base in the Karen district, where the city becomes gardens and forest edge. Depending on the hour, the first day can hold the giraffe sanctuary or the elephant orphanage, or simply rest before the flight north.

02

Days 3 to 5 · Laikipia

Rhino country and private land

Laikipia places rhino conservation, private land and active safari at the centre of the journey: walking, hides, riding where offered, and time with the conservation teams. Three nights let the plateau's full character emerge.

03

Days 6 to 8 · Maasai Mara

Conservancy freedom, one reserve day

A private conservancy gives freedom the reserve cannot: walking, night drives, off-road viewing where permitted and few vehicles at a sighting. One whole day enters the reserve for the river when the season and the brief justify it. A crossing is never promised.

04

Days 9 to 13 · Mahé

Granite mountains and a held coast

Mahé is the deep rest: one villa, one beach on the lee coast for the season's wind, and nothing scheduled after noon. Mornings can hold a mountain walk or a boat; the rest is left alone on purpose.

05

Day 14 · Departure

Return with care

The journey closes with the Nairobi to Mahe flight and a private transfer to the international departure, timed with margin rather than haste.

Two expressions, one journey

The same route, in two registers of address.

The Most Exclusive Addresses and the Distinguished Camps and Lodges preserve the same route, purpose and Sail operating standard. The expression changes the addresses, never the soul of the journey. Every property is a current decision set, not guaranteed inventory; availability, opening and access are confirmed live.

A Sail planning perspective

A starting point, never a fixed package.

The Mara is best from July to October or January to March; the Seychelles coast is chosen by trade wind for the same dates. Sail checks that both halves of the calendar agree before proposing the route.

Every final journey is built around confirmed availability, the current season, your preferred pace and the character of places you want to stay. No fixed departure or price is implied by this sample.
