The shape of the journey
Unhurried and remote, governed by the flight schedule
Day by day
Days 1 to 3 · Katavi and Mahale
Western Tanzania at its rawest. The floodplains concentrate hippo, buffalo and lion in the dry season and time is governed by the twice-weekly flight rather than a schedule of your own. Three nights is the honest minimum.
Days 4 to 7 · Katavi and Mahale
End at Lake Tanganyika, where forest, chimpanzees and water reset the rhythm. Chimpanzee treks depend on where the community is that day; the afternoons belong to the lake.
Day 8 · Arusha
A scheduled bush flight returns you to Arusha for the onward connection, with a final night held if the international timing needs it. The Tanzania chapter ends with margin, not a race to the airport.
Day 9 · Departure
A private transfer to the airport with time in hand. International departure timing is checked against the live schedule before anything is confirmed.
Two expressions, one journey
The Most Exclusive Addresses and the Distinguished Camps and Lodges preserve the same route, purpose and Sail operating standard. The expression changes the addresses, never the soul of the journey. August to October is the window when the floodplains are at their most concentrated and the chimpanzees are lower on the mountain. Flight days are fixed, so the international connection is planned around them.
